GWC :: Remote Monitoring
Despite advances in today's technology, there are times when your systems stop running properly. The problems could be logical - a network or systems software problem that impacts your key applications. Or they could be physical - something amiss in the computer's physical environment.
Multiple components that impact end-user availability
RMS provides you with an automated monitoring and alerting system to enhance your current operating environment. This system is customized to proactively probe your critical applications and to monitor your environmental conditions. RMS is designed to work in an unattended mode, proactively monitoring your data center and recognizing those hard-to-detect problems that only your end users seem to find first. RMS also provides you with a very robust and reliable alerting system. When there is any sort of application or environmental problem, you will have a common, effective service for automatically contacting your technical staff, through pagers, telephones, electronic mail, etc. RMS also ensures that contact is made with your technical staff.
Unique ability to monitor, alert, and report
RMS is a customized service offering to help you monitor and control your data center environment. Network Engineering's experience in the systems management arena has led to the development of a set of tools designed to extend the reach of existing data center products into environmental monitoring, cross-platform application monitoring, reporting and notification through the use of pagers, voice, and electronic mail.
RMS performs three vital functions:
- Application monitoring - Mission-critical applications across multiple platforms.
- Alert Notification - When a problem is detected, alert notification is sent automatically to your RMS display and to the appropriate individuals via pager, telephone, e-mail, etc. as predefined. If your alert has not been acknowledged within a specific timeframe, RMS escalates the situation in accordance with your escalation plan.
- Reports - Provides systems availability and response time reporting.
Benefits
- Customized systems management and availability services
- Extensive monitoring and alerting capabilities
In business uptime is critical, we are dedicated to knowing when and where problems exist before you do. With our monthly remote maintenance product we are able to constantly monitor your servers so we know with in 1-2 minutes if there is a problem. Some instances that cause us to receive an alert are: the drive space is below a critical level; the anti-virus service has ceased to run; or the server is no longer responding to ICMP (ping) requests. We also monitor several other services. In over 95% of the outage incidents we know before the customer knows. This way if there is a problem at 2 AM we are alerted and a technician is able to begin triaging the problem within minutes.
Here is a sample from our Network Monitoring report and an example of the uptime that we produce for our clients. As of 8-17-04 the TOTAL down time for this particular client was just over 1 minute in the last two months. This type of uptime is average for those clients that take the recommendations of our experienced engineers. In a year, the majority of our clients will experience less than 15 minutes of down time, with most of that down time outside of normal business hours.
